Basilica of Candelaria (Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Candelaria)

The Basilica of Candelaria is one of the most important religious sites in Tenerife, located on the eastern coast of the island. This basilica is dedicated to Our Lady of Candelaria, the patron saint of the Canary Islands, and attracts thousands of pilgrims each year.

The main square, Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias, is home to a series of statues of the Guanche kings, representing the indigenous rulers of Tenerife. This site is one of the most photographed locations on the island.

Inside the basilica, visitors can admire its beautiful frescoes and religious artwork, with the main altar dedicated to Our Lady of Candelaria. Nearby, visitors can explore local souvenir shops and restaurants serving traditional Canarian cuisine.

Every year, on August 14-15, the basilica hosts Tenerife’s largest religious festival, where thousands of pilgrims gather to honor the island’s patron saint.
