Cueva del Viento (The Wind Cave)
Cueva del Viento is one of Europe’s largest lava tube systems and among the longest in the world. It was formed around 27,000 years ago after an eruption from the Pico Viejo volcano, located near the famous Mount Teide. This cave system stretches over 17 kilometers and offers a unique opportunity to explore underground lava tunnels, caves, and geological formations.
This destination is perfect for adventurers, as visits are only permitted with professional guides, ensuring a safe and educational experience. During the tour, visitors can learn about lava tube formation, discover fossilized remains, and even see blind cave-dwelling insects that have adapted to total darkness.
Since the terrain is rocky and uneven, visitors should wear comfortable hiking shoes. Due to limited capacity, it is recommended to book tours in advance. Cueva del Viento is one of Tenerife’s most unique attractions, providing an incredible glimpse into the island’s volcanic history from beneath the surface.
